This paddle design draws inspiration from Matariki, the Māori New Year, and the profound connection it represents between the stars, the natural world, and our lives as paddlers. Matariki is more than just a celestial event—it’s a time of reflection, renewal, and recognition of the forces that sustain and guide us.
Each star in the Matariki cluster is traditionally associated with different elements of the environment—such as wind, rain, tides, crops, and ocean food sources—all of which directly influence our journeys on the water. Whether it's the strength of the wind, the rhythm of the tides, or the abundance of the sea, these natural forces shape not only the conditions we paddle in but also the way we connect with our surroundings.
By weaving the symbolism of Matariki into this paddle’s design, we honour the Māori worldview—one that acknowledges the interconnectedness of sky, land, sea, and people. This paddle is a tribute to that relationship, serving as both a functional tool and a reminder of the deeper rhythms that guide our time on the water.
