The Stellar Intrepid 18' (SI 18) Sea Kayak, a very capable kayak with a more traditional hull design. Hard chines, a defined keel and a retractable skeg provide excellent handling in the Rock-Gardens or longer adventures. With 3 sealed storage compartments, a small day hatch in front of the cockpit and deck rigging, the SI18 provides plenty of storage options and accessibility. A moulded seat pad and thigh brace provide comfort and stability when it gets rough.

The benefits of a rudder and skeg combination:

Skeg:
- Better Tracking: Excellent for straight-line paddling, reducing drift in wind and currents.
- Simple and Low Maintenance: Easier to maintain with fewer moving parts.
- No Extra Drag When Retracted: Retracted skegs don’t add drag when not in use.
- Ideal for Long-Distance Touring: Best suited for calm waters or when you need stability for long-distance paddling.
Rudder:
- Better Steering and Maneuverability: More responsive and precise, ideal for quick turns and avoiding obstacles.
- Weathercocking Control: Helps prevent sideways drift in windy conditions, especially when actively controlled.
- Foot-Pedal Control: Allows hands-free steering, freeing your hands for paddling.
- Versatile in Dynamic Conditions: Ideal for coastal, rough water, or variable conditions where frequent adjustments are needed.

Layup Options:

Advantage: Great combination of weight, stiffness, durability and cost. Gelcoat finished heat cured infused epoxy Fiberglass and Soric® core laminate is very tough and resists against punctures. A great race boat on a tight budget. The Advantage hits the mark for price to weight ratio for most kayak paddlers.

Excel: Very stiff and light, yet more affordable than the Alpha. Kevlar® adds impact strength to the laminate - Gelcoat finished heat cured epoxy Kevlar® and Fiberglass laminate with Nomex® Honeycomb Core. Great for racing, or those looking for a light boat, but not as impact resistant as the Multi-sport or Advantage constructions.

Bow and Stern Handles: Toggle handles with bungee line for easy handling in the surf and on the hand.
Cockpit: Adjustable padded seat, with a water bottle holder. Oval shaped Key-hole cockpit with thigh braces for good contact and boat control.
Decks: High Volume deck for large paddlers. Cut-aways on bow deck for narrow catch and an efficient stroke. Static perimeter lines and bungee X lines for deck rigging
Storage Compartments: Large oval and medium round stern hatches, medium oval bow hatch provide 3 water tight storage compartments, plus a small watertight bow deck pod for small items
Foot Brace: Smart Track Transitional foot brace is easy to adjust in the boat, providing stable contact points
Kajak-Sport Skeg: Efficient and powerful foil shaped skeg can be deployed at various depths for greater boat control.
Hull Design: Hard chines, shallow-V hull, with medium rocker make for a boat that can handle it all. The low drag design makes for fast paddling sea kayak.
Construction: Double fiberglass taped seams lines, inside and out, for incredibly strong and durable hull and deck joints. Reinforced fittings and keel line for rough water use.
